I have now joined the ranks of so many great bloggers before me and been “interviewed” on Bottomless Coffee’s (“BC’s”) podcast! To those already familiar with BC, it may surprise you that we interact regularly: me, a beauty blogger, and BC, a political blogger. The two don’t naturally go together, but BC asks the tough questions and genuinely wants to hear all sides. He is willing to admit when you’ve schooled him and is gracious when you flat out disagree. I am especially delighted by the obvious respect between BC and Steve, two friends IRL who, often, have opposing political views. It’s fun to hear them go at it while still being respectful of each other. If you want to hear and read dynamic convos on hot (and longtime) political issues, make sure to check out his blog, Bottomless Coffee 007, and other podcast episodes – there’s tons of material there and you’re sure to find one or more that you’ll wholeheartedly agree, or disagree, with and want your opinion to be known. On the flip side, BC also records podcast episodes with fellow bloggers of all sorts, not just political bloggers – no two podcasts are alike. In that respect, he’s very much a people person and truly wants to get to know his virtual friends.
You won’t be surprised to learn that we talked a good bit about Avon, but we also chatted some about my professional life, my personal life, marketing/advertising tips and tricks, and, yes, even some politics…in a generalized way. BC has provided some timestamp markings for the various sections in his companion blog post. Those who know me know how wordy I am, so I apologize in advance for the ridiculous length of the episode – BC admitted that he doesn’t typically edit his episodes before posting them. ::cough::
I also mentioned some of my favorite bloggers/podcasters:
- Racquel at Racquel Writes;
- Teresa at Teresa’s Big O(pinion) and her podcast, Plenty of Dating Advice, and its companion blog, Plenty of Dating Advice;
- The Huntress at The Huntress 915; and, of course,
- Steve.
Make sure to connect with BC:
- Subscribe to his blog, Bottomless Coffee 007;
- Subscribe to his podcast, Bottomless Coffee 007, on iTunes;
- Subscribe to his podcast, Bottomless Coffee 007, on Google Play;

Give the episode a listen and comment with your thoughts! For those who don’t already know me in person and haven’t watched my YouTube videos, did I sound like you expected? What subjects should we have talked about, but didn’t? What did we talk about that we shouldn’t have? Comments? Questions? Let me know!

Listening…….didn’t know you were Nicklebacks #1 fan, lol. I’m going to keep listening and I will post something later after the TidePodcast (love the name).

Finally finished the podcast, I swear people here at work are so rude, asking if I’ve met the deadline or submitted this or that, sheesh! Don’t they know I’m listening to an important podcast!
You guys really brought out the best in each other! I told you there was nothing to be nervous about, I think you were more nervous about being on a podcast than talking to Coffee, lol.
So, I’m going to interject and say, what’s wrong with being Nickleback’s #1 fan? Uh, nothing, seriously I think the band gets way to much crap, especially from everyone here in the US. I don’t know why, but I like them, yes I do, there I said it, so get off my Kool Aid about it.
See that’s how you stop the incessant teasing about something you like! lol
As for how you sound, you sound nothing like what I thought you’d sound like, but neither does Coffee, lol.

LOL It seems people at work leave you alone EXCEPT when you’re trying to do something personal – SO RUDE!!
I wasn’t nervous about being recorded. I’ve recorded radio spots and so many other things, that no longer freaks me out. I was apprehensive about BC only because I was worried about being thrown political curve balls. He immediately calmed that fear and we were good before he hit the record button. 🙂
Nothing is wrong with being Nickelback’s #1 fan, but I’m not it. I like them fine, but they aren’t in my top faves list.
I love listening to BC’s podcasts with fellow bloggers – and they NEVER (except Racquel) sound like I expected them to!

Your 1st paragraph is everything.
I had the same thoughts when I listened. I multitask. I read, I write, I listen. BUT, if I am wearing headphones, respect it and walk away.

Awe shucks, Heather. You’re such a great and down to earth Gal. I hope I never go up against you for a job interview!

Not likely – we’re not in the same industry…or the same geographic area.

I really need to get you and Racquel on my payroll. I get the feeling that you ladies are a friggin force to be reckoned with.

I started listening last night and fell asleep, not because it was boring but because I was exhausted….I’m looking forward to trying again later.

As you know, I’ve listened to it yesterday (left comments on Coffee’s page).
It was a lengthy one, but I survived, because it was entertaining and informative. Like you, I thought Coffee should edit his podcasts, but then I realized how some people might be upset about certain things not being aired. I suggested to him before to split it into parts, but that idea does not mesh well with him for one reason or another. But anyway…
You were a natural. It shows that you work with people a lot. You don’t flinch, you just talk. And you had some very cool things to say. You presented yourself in a great light.

I’m just lazy Goldie! I’ve tried to edit and create parts 1&2 for example. But every time I’ve managed to accidentally erase or record over.
I would like to do better, but currently I’m working with one screen, a computer, a microphone and a Bluetooth speaker. I’m the kind of guy that requires two screens or one gigantic screen. I’m not trying to make an excuse. I just didn’t want you to think that I don’t try whatever you guys suggest.
I tried the talk and type program, but two minutes in and it froze.

Can you create 2 (or more) copies of the same podcast? If so, edit them individually and create an intro/outro for each piece and include what was talked about in the previous part and/or what will be talked about in the next part. This will accomplish several things: (1) making each part more digestible in one go; (2) allowing folks to pick and choose which parts to listen to according to their interests; (3) creating interest/cliffhangers for listening to the other parts; and, (4) giving you more material/podcasts to post over time so you post more “regularly”.

Huh, I never thought of that. 😂 the answers are so simple, they often escape me. Thanks Heather!

I completely understand. And I remember you saying that the transcription was a failure. No sweat, Coffee. Ultimately, it is YOUR stuff and you do what you want. Obviously. I know you listen, because you’ve always addressed my suggestions and I see you already adopted a few things Heather mentioned. I just didn’t remember what your explanation for the part breakup was. You know I am just trying to help.

Totally, that’s why I try to implement whatever makes it easier to access and digest.

We’re all trying to help because we want BC to be successful!
I do know that YouTube has a transcription program built into it for closed captioning purposes. It isn’t foolproof, but maybe running your podcast audio through YouTube for that purpose may work? That said, it wouldn’t necessarily be a bad idea for you to use YT as another marketing platform. I think some other podcasts throw up their logo as a splash screen and just play the audio in the background so it’s more accessible to folks. I haven’t posted a YouTube video in a good while (a year or two), so I’m unsure about the procedure anymore…not that it would be too difficult to figure out.

I don’t really use YT all that much, but I’ve heard way too many horror stories of locked accounts, etc. I think Coffee likes the freedom of speech he has on his current site. YT is very arbitrary.

The only locked accounts I’ve heard about are of those who are hatemongers, which I’m not necessarily against blocking.

I recently read a post about such an issue and the person never found out what the issue was. Yes, the account was reinstated in the end, but with no explanation. I don’t remember the content of the videos, but I know it was something rather innocent.

Thanks, Goldie!
We should keep working on him to break the longer ones up into parts, though I did think it was a terrific compromise for him to post timestamps for the various subject “bookmarks”. The idea must’ve come to him when I (1) griped about not being able to locate specific things in his podcasts, and/or (2) when I told him he’d need to let Steve know when I mentioned him so he could just forward to those sections. Hopefully he starts doing that regularly on his longer podcasts. I know I, for one, would appreciate it!

Totally!
However, it might not be as easy with other podcasts, since they often bounce around various topics.
