Hopelessly Heather

The ramblings and obsessions of a longtime Avon lady

After I started my blog, I went searching for other bloggers in the same niche and Teresa’s Big O(pinion) was the first one I ever commented on.  She was blasting MLM companies and I jumped into the shark tank of commenters to offer my opposing point of view.  Imagine my surprise when she greeted me with open arms! And that is how our blogger/social media friendship began!

A few weeks ago she invited me to be interviewed on her new podcast, Plenty of Dating Advice, after reading the short version of how I met my husband.  While trying to figure out a mutually convenient time to do the interview, I asked if I could interview her.  Graciously, she agreed…and here we are!

Teresa is my favorite kind of lifestyle/beauty blogger.  She is opinionated, intelligent and snarky.  She is unapologetic for who she is and what she believes in.  She’s vulnerable, nerdy and endearing.  She is not shy and doesn’t care if she is popular.  She’s quirky, honest and open minded.  She’s also many, many more adjectives, but I’ll let you arrive at the same your own conclusions…

When/why did you start blogging?

I started blogging in August 2017. I’d had blogs prior to then, but nothing I ever kept up with, and it was basically all drivel, whining about work and boyfriends and life. This time was different – I had come home with a huge drugstore makeup and skincare haul, and I was so excited to try it all, and it occurred to me that maybe other people would be interested in what I thought about the products. I signed up for my current blog that night.

Top 5 favorite looks you’ve featured on blog?

I don’t do many looks on the blog, but I do occasionally put stuff on Instagram:

Top 3 favorite beauty/fashion bloggers?

Man, I read so many blogs it’s practically impossible to pick favorites, but…

What/who would be your dream collab?

It depends on what kind of collab: if I was going to make a product, it would have to be with Colourpop. They’re possibly my favorite brand and have been for years. If I was going to collab with another blogger or vlogger, I think it would have to be with Samantha Jane or the Beauty News girls. All of them started out as bloggers and moved on to YouTube, and I find them all lovely and down to earth and funny. The BN ladies especially, as they’re vulgar and opinionated, and that speaks to me.

Words of wisdom to aspiring bloggers?

Don’t find reasons to talk yourself out of it; if you want to blog, do it. Do it right now. If no one ever sees your content or they hate it, it doesn’t matter. Do it for yourself.

Favorite Avon product/story/memory?

My grandmother was an Avon lady when I was little. Every year when the first Christmas things started hitting the books, like the holiday Barbies and the poinsettia earrings, she would sit my sister and I down at the kitchen table with legal pads and hot cocoa, and we’d make our Christmas lists. We looked forward to the other catalogs too, but the Avon books were our favorites.

Honorable mention goes to Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray

Favorite beauty/fashion tip?

My favorite beauty tip is that there are no rules when it comes to makeup. It seems like every time I turn around I see some story in a blog or magazine about makeup rules, like “Makeup rules for women over 40” or “5 makeup rules we all need to follow”, and it’s crap. Do what makes you feel beautiful and powerful, because you are both. Ignore everyone and everything else. If you want to wear bright blue eyeshadow and cover yourself in glitter, do it.

What accessory are you currently obsessing over?

Do headphones count as an accessory? I’m currently obsessing over my JBL Elite Active 65t Wireless Headphones.

I wear these just about all day, every day, for everything from listening to podcasts to video conferences. The battery life is like no other Bluetooth headphones I’ve owned, and I love that they’re truly wireless. Yes they’re expensive, but they’re worth every penny.

Favorite/proudest beauty/fashion memory?

The first time I pulled off a smoky eye was, by far, my proudest beauty moment. I’m not good at makeup and never have been, despite my enthusiasm, so the first time it came out looking sexy instead of like a Tim Burton character I was over the moon.

Teresa, thank you for indulging me and letting my readers get to know you! Make sure to check out Teresa’s blog, or connect with her on InstagramFacebook, Twitter, YouTube, Tumblr, Pinterest or on Goodreads.

Reblogged this on Teresa's Big O(pinion) and commented:
Another fun thing that my blog friend Heather did was interview ME! She’s lovely and funny, and when she rolled up, guns out, ready to throw down about MLMs, she did it in such a respectful and logical way that I was impressed. Thus she is now the unofficial devil’s advocate for my posts 😂
