On Tuesday it was back to our regularly scheduled program: selfies! I wore Avon’s very dainty Sterling Silver Onyx Teardrop Necklace and Sterling Silver Onyx Teardrop Earrings. These pieces are much smaller than I thought they’d be – not a bad thing at all, just not what I’d anticipated! They are delicate and pretty lightweight, so the necklace pendant flipped over a lot. Besides that minor annoyance, these are classic, elegant and very gift-able!
Thursday’s work outfit was a monochromatic black, so I slapped on Avon’s True Color Lipstick in Perfect Red for a wow effect – and the color lives up to its name! I took the advice of a couple of fellow Avon reps to try out this shade after I griped a few weeks ago about the last red shade I’d tested out pulling pink with my yellow skin tone – and they nailed it! I now have a great red in my makeup bag of tricks! Perfect Red was PERFECT! ::squeal::
I wore Avon’s True Color Lipstick in Buttered Rum on Friday based on the recommendation of another Avon rep in response to my now solved red lipstick issue. Its reddish-brown hue is already in my wheelhouse (I just tend to wear bolder/warmer lipstick shades in the fall/winter), but it’s definitely not red.
I apologize for the blurriness of the photo – unfortunately, that’s what happens when you own a 4-year-old iPhone 6+ and crop the photo so people can actually see the lipstick color up close and personal. Ugh…I NEED a new phone!! But onto the actual review…
As stated above, this was another shade that was suggested I try when I moaned about the other red lipstick pulling pink a few weeks ago. It has been a long while since I wore Buttered Rum, but it’s one of those reddish-brown shades that I’ve always fallen back on and then worn to death until I’m sick of it and move onto other colors. So, I went ahead and bought this shade along with Perfect Red (YASSSS!!) already knowing I liked this one, but hadn’t taken a selfie while wearing it. So, here you go!
I can wear just about any of the brown shades that are out there (thank you, yellow toned skin!) and the ones that add a touch of red to the mix keep the brown family exciting.
Interesting side note (well, interesting to me): My first mother-in-law was a Beauty for All Seasons Consultant back in the 80s and 90s. I first met her when I was dating my ex-husband in high school and she wanted to “do my colors”. I had zero idea of what that meant, but spent several hours with her so she could do her thing. She put color swatches against my skin and picked makeup for me to try on. (For those dying to know, I’m an Autumn.) The only makeup suggestion that stuck was the one I wore for years called Brick – a dead ringer for Buttered Rum!
So I have now completed the lipstick circle of life! ::holding up my baby cat for all to see::
And that covers this short week’s selfies! Let me know what you think of the jewelry pieces and/or lipstick shades below! Even better, tell me which season YOU are!
Why was the lipstick the only thing that stuck? Was your ex-mother-in-law just not good at the swatches game?

Oh, she was/is terrific at it–I just didn’t do makeup much in HS (it took time to phase out of being a tomboy), and I can no longer recall any of her other makeup suggestions now that I AM into it!
