It’s Favorites Friday!!
I know cleansers aren’t sexy to talk about, but they are mandatory to use! Whether you go for the top shelf super duper expensive cleansers, a regular bar of soap or something in between (like most of us), we all seek out the best option for our own skin type.
I have oily skin and have always struggled finding the right cleanser. Many of them strip away the oils, causing breakouts and patches of dried skin. It’s beyond frustrating to find the perfect balance between leaving my face feeling clean and not causing additional skin issues.
As a result, I’ve tried dozens over the years. Some I outgrew as my aging skin changed and others I moved away from as formulations changed or I found something that worked better. I have been using Avon’s Anew Clean Purifying Gel Cleanser ever since it was released 2-3 years ago and haven’t looked elsewhere. For my skin right now, it ticks all my boxes:
- It smells clean. (This is very important, by the way – I can’t use highly fragranced or overly antiseptic smelling cleansers.)
- It leaves my face feeling clean, but not overly clean.
- It doesn’t dry out my face.
- It doesn’t cause breakouts.
I have two tubes open at all times: one near my master bathroom sink and one in the shower, so I actually wash my face twice per day, like a normal person! I’ve found the cleanser to also work well on my neck, decolletage and top of the back of my neck – where I tend to sweat and get breakouts.
I don’t hold any hopes that this will be my forever cleanser as my skin is continually changing as I age, but I’m beyond satisfied with it as my right now cleanser!

OOhhh something new to try, I never had to use cleansers before but just like you, my skin has changed as I’ve aged (freaking skin!) and it can fluctuate between dry and oily which I hate (thanks again skin!). I’m going to try this out and I’ll let you know how it goes.

I do have oily skin, like seriously oily skin. Clinique’s oil skin cleanser (#2) seems to work for me.

If you have something that works well for you, I don’t suggest changing. I have super sensitive skin that enjoys rioting whenever I force a change on it…

I think I still want to try this product when the Summer time rolls around and I get extra oily. Is there a toner/astringent that goes with it? Is there a difference between toners and astringents?

Yes, there is a toner in that skin care line – I didn’t like it for my face. Not all toners are astringents, but there are many that count as both. I’m actually not sure whether the toner in this line would count as an astringent – if I had to guess, I’d say no.
