Hopelessly Heather

The ramblings and obsessions of a longtime Avon lady

prod_1162300_xlIt’s Favorites Friday!!

I fought off testing out Avon’s MagiX Face Perfector for years before finally giving into all the pressure from customers and team members to just try it out.  Why?  Because I have picky sensitive skin.  Nearly every time I try something new, my face rewards me with breakouts; and if it really doesn’t like a product, I get the ultimate prize: cystic acne.  This fact alone made me gun shy, but add to that the knowledge that this product intentionally covers up your pores to create the illusion of a flawless finish and the deal was sealed: I wasn’t ever going to try this thing.  No way, no how.

Enter the awesome power of peer pressure…and the tiny bloom of hope I held that maybe, just maybe, this product wouldn’t cause volcanoes to form all over my face.  So, I bit the bullet, ordered one (on sale of course – I’m still budget-minded!) and waited for it to arrive while switching between feelings of sheer dread (terrified of the future breakouts it would surely cause) and childish delight (excited to see my fine lines and pores fade).

I busted it out a few weeks ago and was instantly weirded out by the texture.  It’s like Crisco-light for your face.  I was convinced this would fail miserably on many fronts, but I was committed.  So, I slathered it on my clean face right before troweling on my makeup.

Imagine my surprise when the effect was immediate!  Before putting on my foundation, I could already see that my usual oily finish was now a pleasing matte and my fine lines and pores were smooth.  My immediate thought was: what the hell is in this stuff?!  But I carried on with the remainder of my routine, trying not to let my giddiness override my practical side by telling myself that no matter how good it made my face look today, I’d surely pay for it soon enough.

When my full face was on, I was stunned.  It looked like I’d gone back in time a good 10 years!  My makeup hadn’t sunk into my pores and wrinkles like usual.  Instead, the face perfector had created a smooth barrier between my skin and the makeup.  My face has never been, nor will it ever be, flawless…but this product certainly got me much closer to that unattainable goal!

Next was the time test.  I expected to look like death warmed over come noon, but was thrilled when my makeup still appeared fresh halfway through the day!  The official directions claim use of the perfector will last up to 7 hours – and it didn’t lie!  While I can’t claim that it lasted through the entire work day, it certainly lasted the majority of it – which is a huge improvement over my usual oiliness causing my makeup to smear or come off in only a fraction of the time.  Duly impressed with the product itself, I still planned to take a wait and see approach to find out whether or not it would react with my skin.

Several weeks later, I’m still using it on a mostly daily basis and haven’t noticed any dramatic changes with my usual skin flare-ups.  In other words, I’ve not gotten the one nasty reaction I feared was sure to happen! I’m truly kicking myself now for not trying this out sooner – it really has been the amazing product everyone has sworn to me it was and I am happy to have added this step into my daily routine.  Lots of bang for very little buck!

An informative and funny piece today, Heather. I loved the way you described your expectations. I, too, am glad you didn’t look like “death warmed over” come noon…Hahaha

I love hearing people say I’m funny! It’s not an adjective used to describe me often, but I definitely have moments and I’m proud when I do! 😁
