Hopelessly Heather

Being a shorty, I tend to stay away from maxi dresses – they are usually cut for someone taller and they make me look even shorter, but Avon’s Mark Goddess Maxi Dress called out to me. I failed to purchase it as a demo due to my default biases against maxi dresses, but couldn’t pass it up on clearance – and here we are! A beautiful weekend day warm enough to wear it!

While the dress is positively gorgeous – I will probably only wear it again if I get it tailored to fit me better.  To start, the dress is too long for me, which is why you see it tied up on one side – so I didn’t end up face-planting unexpectedly.  I had to wear the belt with it because the weight of the excess material in the skirt under the elastic waistline caused the waist to pull far below the waist – gravity works, folks!  The top portion of the dress is also a bit too long on me (thank you to the height challenge that is me) and it didn’t look proper to have the excess material blouse over the belt, so I just tucked it into the belt…but that created its own challenges.  Every time I bent over or twisted, the excess material would come out of its hiding place and I was constantly futzing with it.  This dress would probably fit someone 5’6″ or taller pretty well, depending on whether or not their trunk v. legs ratio is proportionate. I was blown away that I could cinch up the tie on my right shoulder to fit my bust correctly – and it looked so good! The pattern of the fabric is also really forgiving – always a plus in my book!

For a maxi dress, this one is pretty fancy.  It could easily go to an outdoor summer wedding.  Heavier gold jewelry pieces are called for all around to balance the belt, which arrived flat, so I bent it to fit my curves.  If I’d have had a bit more time to dig around my jewelry collection, I’d have paired a bold gold statement necklace with it rather than the dainty choker I opted for, which is completely overpowered by the wow-ness of the dress.  If you’ve ever wanted to look like a Grecian goddess, this dress totally fits the bill!

If you follow me, it should be obvious that I love these, since I own all but the green set! As discussed in my previous reviews, they are lightweight, but still deliver a solid visual punch with their overall diameter and length – perfect additions to any summer dress to jazz it up…and no need to add any other jewelry pieces either! One and done!!

I tried to brighten Thursday’s grey, drizzly day with Avon’s Blue Surf Long Necklace!

This piece has a bit more rough and tumble feel to it and has a more casual vibe. While it’s called a long necklace, I think it’s more of a medium length. The blue beads are a lot more vibrant in color when you see them in person – artificial light ruins so many things! I also prefer to pull the chain so it’s asymmetrical, though you can definitely make it symmetrical if that’s your preference. When wearing a solid color or a bold print, an asymmetrical necklace will draw more attention – and I love my jewelry getting attention!
