Jet black on Valentine’s Day? Yes, please! Avon’s Modern Jet Necklace and Earring Set (no longer available) was an unexpected choice for the day, but it’s been sitting on my shelf forever, and I finally wore something that I felt worked well to showcase the set. Its design is pleasingly symmetrical, but still has multiple elements to make it different and interesting to look at. Despite the positives, I still found the layers of the necklace to be super fussy throughout the day, and the (medium-weighted) earrings were shaped in a way that kept them banging against the side of my neck all day long, which irked me beyond belief. And yet, I loved the look of the necklace so much, I just might break it out to wear again and just grit my teeth through the annoying bits.
Deck of cards, anyone? Black and red, hearts and diamonds…Avon’s Dazzling Heart Pendant Necklace (no longer available) and Red Holiday Studs unintentionally filled the bill! In keeping with the previous post, I opted to wear a couple of pieces that had been sitting in their boxes on the shelf for way too long (uhh, hello “holiday” studs). The necklace was from the limited-edition Valentine’s Day line, but heart-shaped pieces don’t have to be relegated to just Valentine’s day–and the same goes for solidly colored stud earrings. Like many of the traditionally designed, elegant pieces I’ve been digging recently, the pendant falls into the same category–classy, traditional, pretty, and not even remotely on the avant-garde scale. In other words, right up my alley. The earrings aren’t anything ultra-special, but they worked well in this instance and finally got featured. Only one minor complaint: while they are red, they do appear to be a weaker red alone in the box. In the past, some red-colored stones have appeared more pink, orange, or even black, which is problematic when you purchase a set specifically for their hue, only to receive them and realize they aren’t quite what you expected color-wise. These ones worked out just fine once I put them against my skin.
Glittering stones of my birth month! Avon’s Birthstone Necklace and Earring Set for May is another pretty and colorful set that lands in the classic field. I love that the stones are fairly large and are intended to be the focus of the design for both the necklace and the earrings. I also really like that the setting is decorative, but not too busy, and didn’t add more sparkle to take away from the center stone’s performance. Three minor nits: (1) the color, while vibrant and pretty, isn’t a traditional emerald green; (2) the pendant (and earrings) have rounded backs, which I despise, but didn’t cause any real issues this time around since the earrings are drop-style, and the pendant is fairly small (and I wore a sweater, which provided a nice cushion for it to settle into); and (3) the pendants on the earrings will wallop hard against airpods.
Those are all of the past two weeks’ selfies! What was your favorite and how would you have worn it?!
