Hopelessly Heather

The ramblings and obsessions of a longtime Avon lady

I’m a little glam, and a little retro in Avon’s Red Deco Necklace and Earring Set is topped off with their super cute vintage-inspired Iconic Lipstick in Wild Rose!

This jewelry set hearkens back to the 50s and 60s–an era where even housewives dressed up for the day and were always presentable should a neighbor, friend, or family member drop in unexpectedly.  It’s one of my favorite fashion eras, and this set is seriously on point.  It’s traditional, so it will never go out of style.  The pendant and earrings are a solid medium size, so they don’t disappear in the presence of any outfit, no matter how bold.  The red is warm, so completely appropriate for the autumn and upcoming holiday season.  I did use my magic earring backers to make sure the studs didn’t flop forward on my lobes, but they aren’t particularly heavy–just bigger than usual.

I’ve always geeked out over Avon’s Iconic line–they always include vintage-inspired items from Avon’s earlier product lines, many from the 50s and 60s…my sweet spot!  You can check out my earlier posts featuring some of these items here and here.  This holiday season’s line does not disappoint–stay tuned for lots more of it to be featured in future blog posts!  This particular lipstick comes packaged in an adorable box with a classic Avon image and the lipstick case itself is a collectible in its super cute retro plaid!  The lipstick itself is deliciously moisturizing, which is badly needed in the winter.  The shade is a brighter version of rose than I normally gravitate towards, but it stops well short of being a true “bright” and turning towards the neon look I tend to avoid.  All in all, this one is a win in every category!

Continuing on the same glam/retro path as yesterday, today I’m wearing Avon’s 3 Piece Solitaire Gift Set is topped off with their super cute vintage-inspired Iconic Lipstick in Natural Willow!

This jewelry set is different than many because it comes with a ring!  While the ring looked atrociously large on my finger, it really is beautiful!  All the pieces are pretty, shiny specimens that attract a lot of light and attention–perfect for that holiday work party!  Again, this is a really traditional set, so it can stick around in your jewelry box for years to come and always add that extra sparkle!

As stated in my review of the Iconic Lipstick line above, I love the formula.  It glides on smoothly and moisturizes along the way too.  This particular shade is a neutral nude with a tiny dash of pink added to it.  The end result is that it doesn’t really look like I’m wearing lipstick at all.  If that’s the look you’re going for, this will be a winner!

Bringing a bit of a holiday/winter vibe to my look today in Avon’s Snowflake Pendant Necklace!

Seeing this sparkly goodness in the box instantly brought out a grin!  The snowflake pendant is not tiny–and I was absolutely delighted!  In person, the necklace is a true silver color–I apologize for the terrible indoor yellowish lighting that’s being reflected in photo of the pendant, I didn’t even realize it until I went to post up the photos and, by then, it was too late to go back and redo them.  Regardless, don’t let my poor photography skills sway you from adding this one to your collection–it’s really a beauty!

Those are all of the past week’s selfies! What was your favorite and how would you have worn it?!

  1. I love all of these sets! The lipsticks I’m not too sure of, I get to love an Avon lipstick then they change the formula and color or name and it’s not the same, sadly. 🙄

The Iconic Lipstick line are all limited edition—they aren’t regular shades.

I think it would be a good idea to show the ring on your finger just so people know if it really is that big. It looks small in the photo by itself.

I would have except that they don’t make rings sized for my fingers. The one that it fit on best still left a lot of room in the band. I definitely would not have done that ring justice—it was prettier on its own even though I failed to put something else next to it for scale. Maybe I should invest in a fake hand? 😉

Oh, I misunderstood. I thought you meant that the ring (not the band part; How do you call it? The face?) is big. Some people like over-sized accessories and some don’t.

Don’t they usually put a coin next to it? Fake hand would be weird.

It was both. I have tiny kid-sized hands, which are also skinny. The band was too large AND the setting was oversized for my hand.

A coin is an interesting ideal, though I think a fake hand could be cool. I was thinking an elegant ladies’ hand.

Or maybe use both, then. I think a coin is more universal. People have different hands, and a fake hand can be slimmer, have longer fingers, etc. than your customer’s.
