Hopelessly Heather

The ramblings and obsessions of a longtime Avon lady

Saturday was date night with the hubs and had me showing off Avon’s Purple Chic Pendant Choker and the CZ hoops from their Tokens of Summer Hoop Trio Set in Pink!

I previously reviewed the aqua version of the choker and, sadly, the purple version exhibited the same issues: the pendant is simply too heavy for the chain and continually flips over.  ::sigh::  I even tied the chain into a knot in the back near the clasp in an attempt to keep it in place – no dice.   I previously reviewed the earrings in silvertone and I still agree with that review: the hoops are very small in diameter and are super cute!  Between the silver and gold, I do prefer the silver ones.  I don’t know why I think a solitary CZ stone set in goldtone looks obviously fake (AKA cheap) compared to being set in silvertone, but I do…and these didn’t change my opinion of that combo.

Avon delivery day equals Avon’s sunburst hoops from their Tokens of Summer Hoop Trio Set in Pink!

I’ve reviewed a whole host of versions of these hoops, and these fall in line with my previous reviews – though I do love the adorable sunburst charm on these…they feel fun and summery on top of being cute!

Time to go grocery shopping – in Avon’s #Boho Chic Long Necklace!

What I like about this necklace: (1) It’s vibrantly colorful – it literally goes with everuthing; (2) The beads are completely random – there’s no pattern to their placement, making it visually interesting so that you constantly search for a pattern nearly to the point of madness; and (3) You can wear it long or doubled up – and when doubled up, you can create a double layered collar necklace or a choker/mid-length combo…great flexibility!

What I don’t like: many of the beads are bulky. In order to carry off that bulk, I’d have preferred the length of the necklace be longer than it is. I simply couldn’t find a length, or combination of lengths, that truly appealed to me, both in appearance and in comfortability. In other words: not my fave.

Thursday’s mood: Avon’s Mattitude Liquid Lipstick in Devoted – what’s yours? Take the quiz to find out!

This line is officially releasing next week, though you can get your hands on it early if you can’t wait. I wasn’t sure whether or not I’d like this line. I love matte lipsticks, but am not really a fan of lip paints…and this line is both, with a touch of lip stain thrown in for good measure. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate it. The full-blown shade I picked for the maiden selfie is a bit too bright for my taste, but I was able to blot it back to a tolerable level – it bordered on a coral/bright pink, when I’d hoped for a lovely mauve. The matte property didn’t dry out my lips like I’d anticipated…they actually were decently conditioned. The staining didn’t stick around as long as the Lip Tattoo line, but it was respectable and hung around for a few hours. It certainly would take a quicker beating while eating and drinking, though. I’m fairly certain these tubes will last a lot longer than the Lip Tattoo tubes, which is a big plus in my book since they are comparably priced. Overall, I’m looking forward to testing out the other shades I got!

Friday night I grabbed dinner, then saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory with mom! Mood: Avon’s Mattitude Liquid Lipstick in Resolute!

I tested this shade second based on an Avon sister’s recommendation that this would be a good mauve. It is, but not without a little work. This went on my lips more on the lavender side. To combat that, and keep the chalky look at bay, I applied a layer of clear gloss, kissed a tissue, et voila – a lovely natural looking mauve with a hint of lavender!

Those are all of the past week’s selfies! What was your favorite and how would you have worn it?!

  1. I feel weird commenting because this has nothing to do with me or my lifestyle. But I do like the way you tied a story to every piece/ensemble, kinda like J. Peterman.

You’ve commented about that previously. I had been unfamiliar with J. Peterman, so I went to check it out after your initial comment. Their marketing team rocks!

  2. I love those Mattitude lip colors, ugh but sadly anything matte makes my lips dry. Even lip gloss doesn’t help, it just bleeds out making me look like a psychotic vampire with high heels. But I do love all the jewelry selection, except that large bead…..thingy. Avon had something similar back in the late 80’s, my mom still has it though the beads are darker, not so bright.

These matte lipsticks aren’t drying like most others are, but I get it…we all have our preferences!

You and I agree on the beaded necklace. I loved the colors though…just not the size. And, yes, it does look like older styled pieces – everything old is new again! 😉
