Let’s party!! In early December, the hubs and I attended my law firm’s holiday party, which boasted some casino tables, catered food, a bar, raffles, and a photo booth. I paired Avon’s Holiday Rare Pearl Earrings (no longer available) with some KILLER shoes!!
Make sure to check out the bonus pics (and video!) included at the end of this post!!
During the past couple of years, I’ve found it increasingly difficult for me to summon up the energy to wear and show off new fashion and jewelry pieces–though, it’s not because of a lack of desire. Here in the Pacific Northwest, we have been under lockdowns, mask mandates, remote work mandates, social distancing, and a whole host of other things that eviscerated my very full pre-COVID “fashionista” existence. I now rarely leave my house and, when I do, I’m required to wear a mask for the majority, if not the entire, time I’m around other people, while also maintaining social distancing. The shift to remote work where video meetings are the norm has caused me to focus more on makeup looks, rather than adornments, which can be distracting when people only see you in a tiny box from the shoulders up, and (in person) are annoying to untangle from mask loops. Similarly, I’ve found myself gravitating towards simple and comfortable fashion pieces, most of which I have owned for some time. As such, since my jewelry and fashion collection has grown at the same rate this past year as in previous years, I’ve been terrible about cracking open the packaging and modeling the pieces. By the time I finally do muster up the energy to wear new things, it’s not unusual to learn that they have already come and gone in the brochure. Regardless, I am not going to let that stop me from posting photos and reviews of whatever new pieces I do find the inspiration to don. This intro is an explanation as to why you will see many items with “no longer available” after them, rather than linked to my eStore, but also to explain why my selfies have been “missing in action” a lot more the past couple of years. Here’s to hoping that 2022 will bring about some improvements!
What’s your statement? I sure made one in Avon’s Sterling Silver Statement CZ Earrings! These were so blindingly sparkly that I couldn’t get a good clear close up photo of them, despite my trying multiple different things–if you want to see better detail, click the link above and examine the professional close up shots. In spite of the CZs’ sparkle factor being off the charts, I really wasn’t a fan of these. And the back settings are entirely to blame. If you look at my close up photo, you can see that the earring is not sitting flush with my lobe–that’s because when you flip over the earring, there is a four-corner post-like setting that elevates the entire CZ face, but it’s smaller in diameter than the face, so, even though it’s pretty in its own right, once it’s on the ear, you can’t see it and it makes the earring appear to be hovering above the lobe. All day long when I saw them in the mirror, I tried to tighten up the backs, because the way the earrings sat made them look like they were loose–but they weren’t. Total fail.
Started the work week off consulting the stars in Avon’s Guiding Stars Zodiac Necklace in Taurus and the pink-ish studs in their Modern Stud Earring Trio! I thought the charms on the necklace would have been larger and the chain longer, but I actually like the smaller size…though it makes seeing what the charms are …
I don’t blush, but my jewelry does! Check out Avon’s ultra-feminine Blush Statement Necklace and Earring Set!
It’s not pink, it’s blush! (For those uninitiated, that’s my nod to my favorite movie, Steel Magnolias–if you haven’t already seen it, I highly recommend it. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and, best of all, you’ll laugh while you’re crying!) This set features blush and clear glass stones set in rose goldtone that have an iconic circa 60s Avon feel to the design. One of the pluses to the necklace is that it can be cinched up to be work at choker length as well. I opted not to wear it at that length for this particular outfit because I felt it would pop more against a black (or dark) background–and I was right! The earrings aren’t heavy, but they are bulk, and I broke out my trusty magic earring backers (they seriously work!!) to make sure they didn’t tip forward. Definitely a pretty set to have on call!
