As much as I love the trend, I cannot pull off the off-shoulder look–my shoulders are very narrow and wimpy looking, so wearing anything off of them tends to shine a bright spotlight on that fact…and they are not something I’m interested in people noticing. Luckily, this top has elastic that still looks good when not worn off the shoulder–except that I did notice a tiny gap on the top of my shoulder where the fabric tented/gapped (see second pic for better close ups) instead of laying flat. The fabric is a medium weight, so it’s not a top I’d wear in the deadliest heat of summer, but totally appropriate for cooler summer nights and days.
Regardless, the powder blue is stunning and would work on every skin tone, and the scoop bottom of the top helps hide the mama belly! But, by far, the best thing about this top is the SLEEVES! I probably would have opted to purchase this top just because of the sleeves! They are so beautiful! I only wish they hadn’t included the elastic bits around the middle of the upper arms. I mean, I get why they did it, but it’s not my favorite, and I think it takes away from the thing of beauty these sleeves truly are by themselves.
The bib necklace is loads of fun–and a little on the heavy side! I’d have preferred to cinch it up at collar length, but the chain didn’t allow for that, so I had to let out the chain as long as it would go to keep it from hiding under my blouse all day. However, just because I chose to wear it with a challenging top doesn’t mean I don’t love it! I’ll just choose better next time! The earrings are exactly what you’d expect based on their name–I opened the box and just nodded my head. No surprises one way or the other there. Just a classic style with a lot of shine.
I took a long overdue PTO day on Tuesday to spend the day bonding and gambling at the casino with my mom! I’d hoped Avon’s Naturally Chic Chandelier Earrings and Birthday Balm Lip Crayon in Birthday Suit would bring me good luck and fun times–and they did! Because I’ve already been asked, I walked away a winner!
These earrings are EVERYTHING!! I”ve always loved the elegance of chandelier earrings–they are little show-offs that hog up all the attention, so I tend to skip wearing any other jewelry pieces when trotting them out to wear. And these did not disappoint! They have an Indian flavor to them that I really dig. The hanging beads and stones are all in the same color family, but all slightly different in hue and/or shape from each other, which makes them both appear more natural and bring some interest to the party. They are solidly in the medium weight category–so not super light, but not heavy either. I swooned as soon as I opened the box, and they have earned a place in my “favorites” jewelry box.
I previously reviewed the lip balm itself, so I won’t reiterate what I’ve already said–it all still holds true. However, this shade is a big winner! It’s the only lippie I’ve worn ever since first breaking it out of its package! Despite it being named Birthday Suit, which made me think it would be more of a beige-y nude, it’s actually a very light mauve! It’s one or two shades darker than my natural lip, so it just gives my lips a hint of color, which is perfect to help achieve a sun-kissed, minimal makeup look. Winner, winner, chicken dinner!!
It’s been awhile since I’ve posted some selfie outtakes, but Tuesday was one of those days that they all sucked and I needed to do something dorky to make my face cooperate better—I mean, I did my hair, y’all…I cannot waste all that work and not capture it on “film”! I apologize in advance for those of you who wish you could unsee them, but they are meant to be lighthearted, still show off both the earrings and the lip balm, and give you a behind-the-scenes look at my selfie “process.” (Oh, and look at that hair!!)
You take one day off and pay for it the rest of the week, but it was still worth it! On Wednesday, I showed off Avon’s Lavender Freshwater Pearl Hoop Earrings! They really are a very light lavender color in person, I promise!
While I couldn’t manage to get a good photo of the earrings to show you their true lavender-ness, you can kinda see it in the bottom pearl–you’ll just have to take my word that these are lavender, though definitely a lighter shade than the one shown in Avon’s photos. Up close and personal, you can see that they are genuine pearls–there is zero uniformity among them in shape, size, or shade–however, from a distance, they don’t appear to be so distinctly different from each other. I’ve griped in the past about thicker hoops being problematic for me as they end up appearing to stick out of the side of my head, than hang from my lobes–and that was true with these. While I found the earrings positively lovely, I’m not sure I’d wear them again as a result, but that’s not a dig at the earrings themselves, it’s simply the way my ears are positioned and how they were pierced.
Those are all of the past week’s selfies! What was your favorite and how would you have worn it?!
